Types of Anger Expression in Male and Female Elementary Students

Abstract
Purpose: This study was performed to identify the types of anger expression in male and female elementary students.
Methods: Q methodology was applied in the study. Thirty four Q samples for categorizing the types of anger expression were listed up with in-depth interview, and literature review. P samples of this study were 30 male and 30 female students in their fifth grade in one of the elementary schools in Gyeongsangbuk-do. The data were analyzed with PC-QUANL program and main factor analysis was used for Q factor analysis.

Results: Four types of anger expression that include passive-emotional, rational problem-solving, active-actional, and support pursuing expression were identified in male elementary students. For female elementary students, four types of anger expression were identified such as passive-suppressive, rational-suppressive, indirect-emotional and emotional-aggressive expression.

Conclusion: The types of anger expression in both male and female elementary students were divided into four types. For both male and female students, there were types to express anger passively and to control it properly and showed positive and negative strategies of anger expression. Therefore, anger regulation program suitable for the elementary students is highly recommended.
